Make-Up Tips for Coloured Contact Lens Wearers

Those who wear coloured contact lenses can look fabulous if they make sure their make-up has been selected to enhance the colour of their eyes and their skin tone. These helpful tips describe some popular colour contacts and recommend some different looks for your natural colouring.

Many contact lens wearers tend to have difficulty in wearing eye make-up. Fibreless mascara and the softest pencils are indispensable and anyone wearing contact lenses should avoid penciling on the insides of the eye-lids. Avoid lash-extending mascara, which has fibers that can irritate the eyes. Waterproof mascara, which cannot be easily removed with water, may stain soft contact lenses. It's also good idea to use hypoallergenic products to reduce the risk of sensitivity.

No matter what colour contact lenses you wear, they will make your eyes bright and noticeable.

Your eye make-up shouldn't be too bright though; it shouldn't overpower the new brilliance of your eye colour.

Lipstick is also important in emphasizing your eye colour. Neutral colour lipsticks won't do anything for your eyes. Most varieties of pink and bright, but light-red, on the other hand, would make your eyes stand out.

If you have dark eyes and dark hair with light complexion, you'd look stunning in blue! Try Acuvue 2 Sapphire Blue. These opaques are a bright shade of blue that'll intensify your gaze. Remember, dark eyes are the hardest colour to change and usually require an opaque lens to create any noticeable difference. Lighten and enhance your eyes with smoky eye makeup to really get some attention.
For light eyes and light Hair with a light to medium complexion, why not try something a little different? Try Allure lenses - these clear contact lenses feature a dark ring around the iris. The effect is a bigger brighter looking eye that is totally natural looking. Use a shimmery white eye shadow and black liquid eyeliner with this lens to make your eyes pop. Alternatively, try a brown or gold hued eye shadow. It's best to stick to using cream, pressed powder or automatic eye shadow for shading but if you prefer to use loose powder, mix it with water before brushing onto lids.
For light eyes, brown hair with a light to medium complexion try an opaque grey lens such as Natural Touch Sultry Grey. The opaque grey lens will work on dark eyes too and combines with a dark outer ring for eye definition. For makeup, try lining the bottom ledge of your eye with white eyeliner to give yourself a dewy serene look.
For light eyes, red or auburn hair and a light to medium complexion, try Natural Touch Opaques Baby Blue. The dark outline (limbal ring) defines the eye. Add neutral shadows for sleek and sophisticated look or shimmery light shadows for a glam look. Eyeliner should be brown, as opposed to black. Black has a tendency to look harsh on fair skin. If you are using blue contact lenses, consider trying blue mascara. It will add a whole new meaning to the words "deep blue eyes"!

For dark brown eyes, brown hair and a medium to dark complexion try Freshlook Colourblends Green or Gemstone Green for rich colour. Play them up with darker eye make-up in a brown or plum, full lashes and barely-there lips for a smoldering gaze.

For dark eyes and dark hair with a dark complexion, add some bling to your eyes this season with Sparkles Gold lenses. These fun lenses have subtle golden sparkles that add shimmer and depth to your eyes. Not recommended for light eyes, these lenses need a dark background to really shine!  Another idea is to try violet, like Freshlook Colourblends Amethyst. Add some high sparkle gloss to your lips to complete this polished look.

Important note: Contact lenses, even if worn for cosmetic reasons, are medical devices that should be worn under the prescription, direction, and supervision of an eye care professional.
